Giving Back With World Champion Jalen Fornacier

STORIES OF IMPACT

Passing on a world championship gi in the Philippines.

A meaningful donation from Jalen Fornacier became a symbol of legacy, connection, and opportunity for Filipino jiu-jitsu.

Some donations carry more than material value. They carry history, sacrifice, achievement, and the possibility of inspiring someone else’s journey.

As part of our outreach efforts in the Philippines, we had the opportunity to bring and pass on a world championship gi donated by Jalen Fornacier — a gi connected to years of training, competition, and commitment to the art. And worn by the first Filipino ever to accomplish an adult black belt world title.

More Than a Uniform

For many students in underserved communities, receiving a gi can be the difference between participating fully or standing on the outside of the sport. But this gi represented something even deeper.

A world championship gi carries a story. It represents discipline, pressure, sacrifice, and the countless unseen hours required to reach the highest levels of competition.

“A gi can be equipment. But in the right hands, it can also become belief.”

Carrying Legacy Forward

Passing this gi on in the Philippines created a powerful connection between generations of athletes — from someone who has competed and achieved at the highest level, to young practitioners still discovering what may be possible for themselves.

The moment reflected one of the core ideas behind Sibol Foundation: opportunity grows when the global jiu-jitsu community shares not only resources, but also stories, relationships, and inspiration.

Congratulations to Dwight Lloyd, a worthy recipient pivotal in developing the Davao jiujitsu scene and the next generation of competitors while continuing to be a force himself.

Why These Moments Matter

Our global gi distribution initiative has helped collect and redistribute more than 1,000 gis and no-gi kits across the Philippines and multiple countries. Most donations help solve an immediate practical need.

But certain pieces become reminders that the path from a small academy, a local mat space, or an underserved community can still lead somewhere extraordinary.

For the athlete who receives it, a gi like this can serve as a daily reminder that champions are built through consistency, support, and belief.

It was our honor to present the gi to Dwight Lloyd, Head Coach at Dojo 82. Not only is Dwight a head coach, but he’s also influential in the local communitu – helping kids and scholars, organizing events, competing and being an excellent role model. He’ll wear it well!

Connected Through Community

We are grateful to Jalen Fornacier for contributing something so meaningful to the mission and allowing it to become part of a larger story in the Philippines.

Moments like this show what makes jiu-jitsu unique: the ability for one person’s journey to encourage another’s, even across countries, generations, and communities.

Looking Ahead

As Sibol Foundation continues growing, we hope to keep building bridges between athletes, academies, donors, and communities around the world.

Every donated gi has value. Every story matters. And sometimes, one uniform can carry enough meaning to remind a young athlete that their own future is still being written.
